A couple months ago , I wrote this about SOPA: SOPA galvanized the tech community, from start-ups to venture capitalists to the largest web companies. SOPA was an unexpected shock and a wake-up call. Well, guess what? Now the internet is awake. And I don’t think it’s going back to sleep any time soon. We might need to rally again in the near future, but we can do that. The internet learns fast. Now it’s time to rally and get loud. It’s time to call your Senators. Heck, it’s time to ask your parents to call their Senators. If you think the internet is something different, something special, then take a few minutes to protect it. Groups that support SOPA have contributed nine times more money in Washington D.C. than our side. We need to drown out that money with the sound of our voices. I’d like to flood every Senator’s phone, email, and office with messages right up until January 24th. If you need a quick refresher about why the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and PROTECT IP Act (PIPA) are horrible ideas, Google did a blog post talking about how SOPA and PIPA will censor the web and won’t stop actual pirates . Or read about how capricious takedowns can cause serious collateral damage . Find out how real, legitimate companies can be run out of business . What you can do? It’s time for action. Call your Senator right now . Spread the word to your friends and family. Promise not to vote for politicians who support SOPA . Print out some PDFs and post them at work or on your campus. There’s also protests and meetups happening today in New York , the Bay Area of California , and Seattle . Don’t live in the United States? You can still petition the State Department at americancensorship.org . This is it. You want to look back months from now and know that you did everything you could to protect the internet. Call your Senators, educate your friends and family, and please spread the word about PROTECT IP and SOPA as widely as you can. But if you can only spare five or six minutes, please call both of your senators below: Thank you!

When I did my blog post about the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) last week , things looked quite grim. The fight isn’t over, but there’s been a lot of great developments in the last few days. If you’re not familiar with SOPA (and the PROTECT IP Act in the Senate), here’s a video that covers the basics: This internet censorship under SOPA editorial by Rebecca MacKinnon also describes why SOPA would be really bad for the internet. I also wanted to take a minute and thank everyone who called or wrote their Congressperson to speak out against SOPA and PROTECT IP. As a result of people speaking up in the last few days, a lot has happened: - Republican Representative Darrell Issa and Democratic Representative Nancy Pelosi came out against the bill . Rep. Issa said “I think it’s [SOPA] way too extreme, it infringes on too many areas that our leadership will know is simply too dangerous to do in its current form.” - On the Senate side, Maria Cantwell, Jerry Moran, and Rand Paul all came out against PROTECT IP . - The European Parliament passed (by a large majority) a resolution criticizing SOPA . The resolution emphasizes “the need to protect the integrity of the global Internet and freedom of communication by refraining from unilateral measures to revoke IP addresses or domain names.” - Sandia National Laboratories, a part of the U.S. Department of Energy, concluded that the SOPA legislation would “negatively impact U.S. and global cybersecurity and Internet functionality.” Sandia joins Republican Representative Dan Lungren, who also worried that SOPA would undercut efforts to secure the internet with DNSSEC . The response from regular people has been just as incredible. Consider: - Tumblr made it easy for anyone to call their representative, resulting in over 87,000 calls to Congress . If you haven’t called yet, this page on Tumblr makes it easy to call your congressperson . - A ton of web users now have this issue on their radar. The Hill noted that “at one point on Wednesday four of the top 10 searches on Google were related to the bill. ‘Internet censorship’ was still the second most searched-term as of Thursday evening.” - SendWrite offered a way to send a physical letter to Congress . SendWrite eventually had to put on the brakes after over 3000 people submitted letters to send. I think this overreach on SOPA will actually make the internet community much stronger . Let me tell you why. The forces in favor of SOPA have been outspending the tech industry almost 10 to 1 in Washington, according to a recent article in Politico . Here’s an image from that article that illustrates the vast gulf in spending: And members of Congress are not always the most tech-savvy: the Congressional Research Service tallies only six engineers in Congress . But if you look further out, the picture is quite different. In 20-25 years, a generation of “digital natives” who grew up with Facebook/Twitter, search engines, and cell phones will start entering Congress. The digital generation will protect technology like the internet from especially bad regulation. They’ll protect technology because they grew up with it and embrace it. So if we can make it through the next 20-25 years, the people in power will protect technology for us, not fear it. At least, I thought we’d have to wait 20-25 years before a critical mass of people would defend the net. But SOPA has brought that day a lot closer. SOPA galvanized the tech community, from start-ups to venture capitalists to the largest web companies . SOPA was an unexpected shock and a wake-up call. Well, guess what? Now the internet is awake. And I don’t think it’s going back to sleep any time soon. We might need to rally again in the near future, but we can do that. The internet learns fast. What you can do? - Sign up at American Censorship to send a note to Congress and get updates. - Call your congressperson with Tumblr’s easy web page . - I believe anyone inside or outside the United States can sign this White House petition . If you’re outside the United States, you can also sign this petition . - Follow groups like the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) on Twitter . - Sign up with United Republic , a new organization dedicated to the larger problem of money in politics. - Sign up to have Senator Ron Wyden read your name on the Senate floor when he filibusters against this legislation.

– Sign up at American Censorship to send a note to Congress and get updates. – Call your congressperson with Tumblr’s easy web page . – I believe anyone inside or outside the United States can sign this White House petition . If you’re outside the United States, you can also sign this petition . – Follow groups like the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) on Twitter . – Sign up with United Republic , a new organization dedicated to the larger problem of money in politics. – Sign up to have Senator Ron Wyden read your name on the Senate floor when he filibusters against this legislation.

(This is post is my personal opinion.) Normally I don’t like to ask people for help, but I could really use your assistance. If you’ve ever watched one of my webmaster videos, or if I’ve responded to you on Twitter, email, or somewhere else online, please take 5-10 minutes to help me out today. Here’s what I need: 1. Take a few minutes to learn about the SOPA/E-PARASITE/PROTECT IP bills. They’re really bad bills . 2. Take five minutes to call your Congressperson on the phone . If you live in Texas, Michigan, Vermont, or Iowa , this goes double for you. 3. Get the word out. Tell your friends on Facebook, Twitter (maybe a hashtag like #stopsopa), or Google+. If your parents live in a different state, ask them to call their Congressperson too. I would really, really appreciate the help. If you’re the kind of person who reads my blog or follows me online, I’m pretty sure the more you read about SOPA , the less you’ll like it. If SOPA becomes law, it could stifle the innovation (and jobs) that the technology industry creates. That’s why Facebook, Twitter, Mozilla, Google, Yahoo, eBay, AOL, LinkedIn, and Zynga all oppose SOPA . This is not a Democratic or Republican issue– Red State thinks SOPA is a bad idea too . I could go on and on (and I’m sure I will in the future) about the abuses that these bills would allow. But for now, I need your help . Please call your Congressperson right now and explain that this bill overreaches and would do serious harm to the internet. Thank you!

It’s been a while since I reported on any 30 day challenges , so it’s time for an update. 30 days of Being Thankful I knew that January, February, and March would be crazy, including a bunch of stuff at work, traveling, plus several conferences. So I told myself it was okay to do only one 30 day challenge, and it was a pretty easy one. I decided to be thankful for one thing each day. I kept a list, so here are 30 things I’ve been thankful for recently: - thankful for my wife, plus the fact that she’s a good cook. - thankful for my family. No one’s crazy and we all love each other. - thankful that I can afford to take time off with my wife this week for our 11 year anniversary - thankful that my wife is funny and we laugh together - thankful that an Android phone can be a powerful personal computer, and that Google Docs lets you edit a doc from Android . - thankful for This Week in Google (TWiG) because they provide free techie podcasts that I listen to while I work out - thankful for my cats, but especially for the furry orange one who likes to perch on me and sleep next to me. - today I’m thankful for the other cat, the gray striped-y one who sometimes lounges on my legs and keeps me warm - thankful for caffeine, which is helping me to work down my email backlog. - thankful for my health. Glad to be over my whooping cough. - thankful for an aisle seat on a plane, that the plane that landed on time, and fortuitously running into Googlers in the airport to share a cab with. But also thankful for beautiful snow in Washington D.C. that didn’t derail my travel plans. - thankful for thoughtful discussions of how Google works and how to make it better - thankful to be heading home from D.C. - thankful for smart, effective, hard-working colleagues - thankful for my bike - thankful for exercise and my health. And for a long bath after an eight mile hike. - thankful that my Aliph Jawbone Icon can be updated to A2DP, so I can listen to music on my Bluetooth earpiece with my Android phone - thankful for sleep, but mainly because I haven’t gotten enough of it. - thankful for the chance to vent with some smart people. - thankful for good copy editing - thankful for Data Liberation and my lockpick set . - thankful for daffodils - thankful for an empty locker room. It sounds silly, but it’s more fun to get dressed in an empty locker room than a crowded one. - thankful that my best friend back in Kentucky keeps sending me cool stuff he’s writing for me to read - thankful for Linux and Chrome: two great things that keep me productive and safe on the internet - thankful to WIRED magazine for writing about topics I want to read about - thankful for colleagues who come together to work on important things - thankful to Kara Swisher for introducing me to Val Emmich’s song called “ Get On With It ,” which is great to work out to - thankful for Daylight Savings Time so I can start biking into work again - thankful to have had a fortunate life so far: I feel like I get to make a difference and be rewarded for it I was looking back over the list and I realized that some of the things I’m thankful for are high-tech, but most aren’t. Which leads me to my next 30 day challenge… 30 days with no electricity I think sometimes we get caught up in the excitement of technology and the online world. We forget that there’s an entire world offline–a world of books, and visiting with people, and being active instead of sitting in a chair. So my next 30 day challenge, I’m going to turn off my internet connection and reconnect with the offline world. I’m turning off my cell phone and won’t answer any email. Instead, I’m going to visit with friends in person, catch up with family, and generally try to use as little technology as possible. I’m even trying to minimize the electricity I’m using. For the next 30 days, I’m going to camp out in my backyard. This will be my home for the next 30 days: I’ll still take showers indoors, since that doesn’t need electricity, but otherwise I’ll be getting up with the sun and going to bed when it gets dark. This will be a really difficult challenge, but I’m looking forward to it. I’m heading offline after I publish this blog post, but I’ll let you know what I learned in 30 days!

And for a long bath after an eight mile hike. – thankful that my Aliph Jawbone Icon can be updated to A2DP, so I can listen to music on my Bluetooth earpiece with my Android phone – thankful for sleep, but mainly because I haven’t gotten enough of it. – thankful for the chance to vent with some smart people. – thankful for good copy editing – thankful for Data Liberation and my lockpick set . – thankful for daffodils – thankful for an empty locker room. It sounds silly, but it’s more fun to get dressed in an empty locker room than a crowded one. – thankful that my best friend back in Kentucky keeps sending me cool stuff he’s writing for me to read – thankful for Linux and Chrome: two great things that keep me productive and safe on the internet – thankful to WIRED magazine for writing about topics I want to read about – thankful for colleagues who come together to work on important things – thankful to Kara Swisher for introducing me to Val Emmich’s song called “ Get On With It ,” which is great to work out to – thankful for Daylight Savings Time so I can start biking into work again – thankful to have had a fortunate life so far: I feel like I get to make a difference and be rewarded for it I was looking back over the list and I realized that some of the things I’m thankful for are high-tech, but most aren’t.

Do you want to drive targeted traffic to your site without wasting any time? Google Adwords is your solution. Keep reading to find out just how beneficial Google Adwords can be CPA Renegade Review.

One of the biggest benefits of using Google AdWords is that it doesn’t take a lot to really get started with it. It’s super easy to get started. The speed with which execution is made with Google Adwords is not even comparable to other sites. Looking back will not be an option once you have the basics down. 15 minutes is all it takes to get started. Generating a targeted keyword list and a creative ad will occur within just a few minutes of creating your account. Your approach must be vigorous and timely or you will find it Another advantage is the enormous audience you are able to reach using this service. If you act hastily, then you’ll end up losing your money as well as the confidence to do more. The effort you put into your ad will reap you the benefits of positive results. Targeted traffic will begin coming your way quickly after your ad is published.

If you are paying thirty cents per click and you were to get a hundred clicks, then that equals thirty dollars, which is something to consider if you hope to make more money. When you finally make your campaign successful, you should know what made it work. Then, once you’re aware of what you did right, you can continue to do those things. However, every time you make money, it’s probably going to be due to something different, and that’s why you need to keep track of those things you did so that you can replicate it. You should refrain from reinvesting your cash into Adwords until you’ve done enough tests so you can determine what’s worked for you. Another great aspect about using Adwords is that managing your ad campaigns is easy so that you can actually see great results. Once you get in the members area, you’ll find a number of tools that can be used to monitor your campaign and track it. For example, there’s a Google Keyword implement that you can utilize to discover various keywords that would be useful to use with the ad campaign, and you can even determine how those keywords are doing. Not only that, but it’s possible to see how your advertisements are going about converting your traffic so that you can put the best grouping of ads on your website. Plus, you are able to use the Adwords editor that will help you manage and change your ads offline and then you can upload them when they’re finished. That’s why Adwords is far better than any other PPC service out there. Not only that, but Google continues to tweak it and there are many more features to come.

You get to garner all the profits and keep them for yourself. You can sell anything from an ebook to a report or even software, and you can receive people who want to buy your products through Adwords. Also, when you sell your products through Adwords, you can be rest assured that the visitors you get are highly targeted and interested in what you’re offering. This means you’ll get those visitors to convert more easily SEnuke Review.

Therefore, if you are searching for a way to garner great traffic, Google Adwords is something you should definitely use. Go ahead, start off with a small budget and start driving traffic to your site right away.
